A practical checklist for reviewing research-material documentation. A COA supports traceability; it is not a substitute for independent verification or laboratory quality controls.
1. Confirm identity
Check that the product name, batch or lot number, and sample description match the material you received.
2. Check the analytical methods
Look for the test method used, such as HPLC for chromatographic purity or mass spectrometry for identity confirmation. A result without a method is difficult to interpret.
3. Read purity in context
Purity is method-specific. Review the reported percentage alongside the method, detection limits, and any listed related substances or impurities.
4. Review dates and sign-off
Check the testing date, report date, laboratory details, and authorisation or quality approval fields.
5. Keep the full document
Retain the original PDF with purchase, batch, storage, and laboratory records so assay data remain traceable.
