Peptide research glossary

Clear definitions for common analytical, storage, and laboratory research terms.

Amino-acid sequence

The ordered chain of amino acids that defines a peptide’s primary structure.

COA

A Certificate of Analysis documenting identity, analytical testing, batch information, and reported assay data.

HPLC

High-performance liquid chromatography, an analytical method commonly used to assess chromatographic purity.

Lyophilised

Freeze-dried material designed to improve stability during storage before approved laboratory preparation.

Molecular weight

The calculated mass of a molecule, typically expressed in daltons or grams per mole.

Purity

The reported proportion of the target material relative to detected impurities under a stated analytical method.

Reconstitution

The laboratory process of adding a compatible solvent to a dried research material under an approved procedure.

Research use only

A restriction indicating the material is not intended for human or veterinary use, diagnosis, treatment, or administration.

Stability

The ability of a material to maintain its identity and analytical profile under defined storage and handling conditions.
